Citation | Davies is distinguished for many contributions to computing and communication. He is responsible for the ideas of packet-switched communication; the depth and convincing character of his studies of this subject were instrumental in determining the development of the Arpanet (the pioneering American packet-switched network) and all subsequent packet-switched networks. He has also made major contributions to the development and application of cryptography to the security and authenticity of data transmitted through digital networks. In the civil sphere his standing is unexcelled in this subject. |
