Citation | Distinguished for her structural investigations of organic and biological molecules by diffraction methods. Her recent work on oligonucleotides has been important in recasting ideas about alternative structures for DNA segments. Kennard deserves special credit for her foresight, energy, determination and organisational skill in setting up the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre in 1965 and directing its activities ever since. This Centre has made it possible for scientists all over the world to discern relationships and regularities among the flood of crystal structure data published in ever increasing amount each year. Olga Kennard has served on several national and international bodies and has been President of the European Crystallographic Committee since 1974. She received the Award in Structural Chemistry of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1979. A list of 161 publications is appended. |
