Title | Robson, Peter Neville: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1980 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his researches in the growing field of microwave solid-state devices, in which he is established as an international leader. Though an engineer by training, he has made important contributions to the fundamental physics of hot carrier devices. His particular speciality was the theory of noise in non-linear microwave amplifiers, but he has done valuable research, both theoretical and experimental, on a number of solid-state microwave sources, including transferred electron oscillators, avalanche devices, and field effect transistors. He recently invented a new oscillator, the DOVETT. Robson's interests are wide, and extend to growing materials from which the microwave oscillators are fabricated. This has been recognised by SRC in establishing his Department as a centre of excellence for III-V compound growth. |
