Citation | Following seminal early work on polypeptide initiation and messenger RNA structure, Dr. Adams has made distinguished contributions to the molecular genetics of normal and neoplastic lymphocytes, often together with Dr. Suzanne Cory. Their findings on antibody genes helped to resolve longstanding questions on their numbers and how they are assembled. A paradigm for neoplastic development was provided by their discovery that an oncogene could be activated by translocation to an antibody locus. Their introduction of oncogenes into the mouse germline has created novel animal models for haematological malignancies and clarified how oncogenes normally function in differentiation. |
