He provided detailed information on the connections and fine structural relationships of sensory pathways in the superior colliculus and dorsal thalamus and discovered the abnormality of the optic decussation characteristic of albinos. He exploited this information in an original series of studies in the development of the visual pathways, showing the mis-connection, overproduction, and correction of pathways that forms a part of normal development, and was among the first to show with fine-structural, physiological and behavioural methods that transplants can establish functional connections in the brain. |
