CitationDistinguished for his contributions and leadership in the field of aero-engine design and development. With Rolls-Royce since 1954, his early work was on combustion, then on the engine demonstration programme leading to the engine for the Eurofighter 2000. He led the work on the hollow titanium fan blade uniquely used by Rolls-Royce on all their bypass engines. He then headed the development of the very successful RB211-535 engine and most recently the international programme on the V2500 engine comprising a highly efficient compressor. From 1985-1990 he was in charge of all aero-engine design and development and is now Board Member for Engineering and Technology across the Company.
