His studies have provided new insights into the mechanism of sex determination, the evolution of genes on the X-chromosome and genetic predisposition to cancer. His work on the BRCA1 and BRCA2 breast cancer genes has led to important new concepts of how DNA repair defects can be used to develop novel therapeutic approaches for cancer. |
