Citation | Mark Kisin is a ( perhaps 'the' ) leading young algebraic number theorist. He is revolutionizing two fields. He has pushed Wiles' powerful modularity techniques ( which Wiles used to prove Fermat's last theorem ) much further by introducing a series of stunningly innovative new ideas. He has had a similar impact on the study of p-adic representations of p-adic Galois groups. Thanks largely to his work the Fontaine-Mazure conjecture is mostly settled in two dimensions. Moreover his work played a crucial role in Khare and Wintenberger's proof of Serre's conjecture on mod p Galois representations, and helped inspire the last step in the proof of the Sato-Tate conjecture for elliptic curves with non-integral j-variant. |
