Citation | Katharine Cashman is a volcanologist and petrologist known for her seminal contributions to understanding active volcanoes. She specialises in deciphering textural and chemical information in volcanic rocks for enhanced understanding of how magma and gas move through the earth prior to and during volcanic eruptions. Her work is particularly concerned with processes responsible for the generation of volcanic tephra, including volcanic ash, and lava and the hazards they pose. She has published extensively on the eruptions of Mount St. Helens (USA), and the Hawaiian volcanoes. She holds the endowed AXA Chair in Volcanology at University of Bristol. |
