Citation | Professor Roy Harrison is a world-leading figure in the chemistry of polluted urban atmospheres. His research has concentrated on the chemical characterisation of particles affected by pollution and apportionment of the sources of the pollutants. The work has involved theory, laboratory experimentation, field sampling and modelling; it has centered on the interaction between gas phase chemistry and atmospheric aerosols, aerosol nucleation and the formation of nanoparticles. Applied aspects were initially on lead as an air pollutant and more recently on the general effects of airborne particles on human health. Professor Harrison has an extensive record of publications, many of which are highly cited. Until recently he was NERC Theme Leader on Environment, Pollution and Human Health. |
