TitleHegerl, Gabriele Clarissa: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date4 May 2017
DescriptionCertificate of candidate for election
CitationGabriele Hegerl is a climate scientist who has made key advances in the critical interpretation of the role of intrinsic variability and of external drivers in observed climate change. Her rigorous approach tests understanding of its causes and provides predictions anchored in observations. She published the first study to systematically distinguish between different possible explanations for the observed recent warming and thus to quantify the contribution to the warming from human-induced factors. She was also first to use multi-century climate reconstructions to estimate the sensitivity of climate to changes in the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
