CitationJulia King is distinguished for her university research in the micromechanisms of fatigue and fracture, for which she has received many national and international medals. She then an outstanding Director of Advanced Engineering at Rolls-Royce, where she developed major new products such as the MT30 marine gas turbine, selected for use in US ships. She authored the King Review of Low Carbon Cars, commissioned by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, which has led to a step change in emissions reductions in vehicles, major award investments from Nissan, Toyota and Tata, and further national and international awards. She has led the writing of many reports of the Committee on Climate Change. She has demonstrated outstanding leadership in science and engineering education and women in science, for which she has again received national and international awards. Her work is remarkable for its impact in science, engineering and government, nationally and internationally.
