Citation | Andrew Orr-Ewing is distinguished for his ground-breaking research in molecular reaction dynamics, photochemistry and spectroscopy. His experimental work is outstanding; it is characterised by its rigour, and its considerable breadth. In reaction dynamics he has successfully pioneered the study and understanding of gas phase reactions involving polyatomic molecules. He is now also probing analogous reactions in the more challenging environment of solutions, using sophisticated ultrafast laser methods to explore the extent to which dynamical aspects of chemical reactivity transfer from the gas to condensed phase. He has also made major contributions to the development and application of cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy methods for quantitative analysis. His reputation has been marked by invitations to numerous international conferences and by the award of several Prizes by the Royal Society of Chemistry. |
