TitleSalam, Gavin Philip: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date4 May 2017
DescriptionCertificate of candidate for election
CitationGavin Salam is distinguished for his profound and wide-ranging contributions to the understanding of Quantum Chromodynamics, many of which have led to new phenomenological insights and new tools for experimental studies. He has solved key problems in the theory of hadron structure at small momentum fractions and of hadronic event shapes. His highly innovative work on jets played a role in the discovery of the Higgs boson, and allows jet finding at the LHC at higher intensities and in heavy ion collisions. His contributions are important in searching for new phenomena and for measuring the fundamental parameters of particle physics.
