Citation | Jonathan Stoye is renowned for his studies of genetic interactions between retroviruses and their hosts. His work has provided significant insights into two aspects of this subject. Pioneering studies of endogenous murine leukemia viruses provided a paradigm for the role of endogenous proviruses in molding the mammalian genome and assessing risks to health associated with activation of these elements. His discovery of the retroviral restriction factor Fv1 was a landmark contribution to the understanding of host resistance to retroviruses, ultimately resulting in the identification of multiple host factors, including TRIM5< and SAMHD1, which provide intrinsic restriction of viral infection. |
