| Citation | Vallance, an exceptional figure in pharmaceutical research, has pioneered an agenda of open science transforming collaboration between industry and academia to enable drug discovery. His Open Science agenda has inter alia led to novel approaches to diseases of the developing world, programmes enabling academics to form drug discovery teams with industry experts, partnerships with EBI and Sanger to generate openly accessible data on drug targets, embedded industry scientists in the Francis Crick Institute, and made clinical trial data openly accessible to independent researchers. His efforts have greatly enhanced the attraction of the UK as a place to conduct drug discovery. |
