Date | 9 May 2018 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Richard Dixon as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | For over 30 years, Richard Dixon has been a world leader in the field of plant specialized metabolism. In early studies with Chris Lamb, he deciphered the molecular mechanisms underlying the activation of chemical defenses during resistance of plants to microbes. After becoming Director of Plant Biology at the Noble Foundation in 1988, he used a combination of biochemistry, chemistry, genetics and genomics to decipher the biosynthetic and regulatory pathways leading to bioactive flavonoids and lignin, and has led the field of metabolic engineering for development of more nutritious forages and bioenergy crops with enhanced properties for biorefining. |
