CitationWenfei Fan has made fundamental contributions to both theory and practice of data management. He has developed radically new approaches to querying big data that overcome the limits associated with conventional database systems. He has also made basic contributions to data quality that have resulted in powerful new techniques for data cleaning. In both these areas his work has found substantial international adoption by industry.

Fan has also contributed to the principles of many aspects of data including parallel data models, security, data transformation and generally to our understanding of semi-structured and graph-like data.
