TitlePrentice, Iain Colin: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date9 May 2018
DescriptionCertificate endorsing election of Colin Prentice as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed off by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton.
CitationColin Prentice is a founder and leader of quantitative Earth system science, with an extraordinary record of high impact publication. Early achievements included developing the still-accepted standard theoretical models for pollen analysis and vegetation gradient analysis. He has developed quantitative theory and devised observational tests for ecosystem processes, such as physiological acclimation, and carbon-nitrogen cycle interactions. He pioneered global-scale land biosphere modelling and led the building of models that remain world-leading. Combining models and data creatively, he has addressed fundamental scientific questions in biogeochemistry (including the carbon cycle), dynamics of atmospheric composition, and climate on Quaternary to contemporary time scales.
