Citation | Colin Prentice is a founder and leader of quantitative Earth system science, with an extraordinary record of high impact publication. Early achievements included developing the still-accepted standard theoretical models for pollen analysis and vegetation gradient analysis. He has developed quantitative theory and devised observational tests for ecosystem processes, such as physiological acclimation, and carbon-nitrogen cycle interactions. He pioneered global-scale land biosphere modelling and led the building of models that remain world-leading. Combining models and data creatively, he has addressed fundamental scientific questions in biogeochemistry (including the carbon cycle), dynamics of atmospheric composition, and climate on Quaternary to contemporary time scales. |
