Citation | Molly Shoichet is an internationally-renowned scientist working at the interface of chemistry, engineering and biology. The polymers that she invented are being used to tackle some of the biggest challenges in medicine. She pioneered a new approach to circumvent the blood-brain barrier, thereby overcoming a key challenge of local delivery to the brain. She enhanced survival of transplanted cells to the retina, demonstrating vision repair. She designed novel hydrogels that enable 3-dimensional cell culture, providing a significant advance for more predictive drug screening in cancer. She designed amphiphilic polymers that self-assemble to nanomicelles and encapsulate more chemotherapeutics, enhancing tumour targeting and efficacy. |
