Citation | Plane is a World-leader in fundamental experimental and theoretical studies of the chemistry of a wide variety of planetary and stellar environments, ranging from the upper ocean to dust formation around stars. He has pioneered techniques for studying gas-phase reactions of metallic species, and is a leading expert on the chemistry of metals which ablate from cosmic dust particles entering planetary atmospheres. In addition, he has used a combination of observations, laboratory studies and atmospheric modelling to make important contributions to our understanding of the chemistry of the Earth's lower atmosphere, with particular emphasis on the chemistry of iodine. |
