Citation | Professor John Shine is distinguished for discovery of the Shine-Dalgarno sequence and the basic regulation of initiation and termination of protein synthesis. He played a leading role in the development of gene cloning technology, the first cloning of a human gene (affording genes for insulin and human growth hormone) and leading to gene expression tools for the biotechnology industry. He was the recipient of the 2010 Australian PM Science Prize, and he has provided leadership of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, as Chair of the Board of CSL Ltd and as President of the Australian Academy of Science. |
