He has made remarkable advances in research technology using high accuracy GPS and inertial sensors to transform the quantity and continuity, of data from freeranging animals. He has revealed the performance characteristics of cheetah and lion hunting, that high muscle efficiency enables long-distance economical locomotion in wildebeest, leg tendons suffer heat damage in galloping racehorses, and a damping mechanism that reduces the danger of fatigue failure of tendons. His discoveries and innovations have changed our understanding of animal locomotion and opened new areas for inquiry.
