CitationWendelin Werner has revolutionised our understanding of critical two-dimensional models in probability and physics. For his achievements in random geometry he was awarded the Fields Medal in 2006. His meticulous work on Schramm--Loewner evolutions, a highly novel system of random curves, provides a new conceptual understanding of random geometric phenomena in two dimensions, and continues to have enormous implications for the study of physical interfaces. Through his work and personality, he has attracted and influenced a community of distinguished younger researchers in the UK and worldwide.
