Citation | Carlos Nobre is a climate scientist widely recognized for his work on biosphere-atmosphere interactions and the climate impacts of Amazon deforestation. In particular, from observational and modelling studies he has shown that large-scale deforestation and temperature rises that may be experienced this century could lead to extensive replacement by savanna-like vegetation in southern and eastern Amazonia. Carlos has been, and is, very active in communicating the science of climate change and sustainability to society nationally and internationally. He has initiated, organised and led multiple science programmes that have shaped the development of Brazilian science, especially in global and Amazon change. |
