CitationMichael Garrett is an outstanding radio astronomer who has been responsible for the development and successful operation of major radio telescopes, most notably LOFAR and e-VLBI. Garrett has been Director of two leading radio astronomy observatories, in the Netherlands and in Manchester. His appointments were based on his special contributions of new high-resolution techniques using multi-element telescopes on an international scale. His outstanding contributions to the organisation and management of radio astronomy have made him a world leader in his field. His international standing and his deep knowledge of signal processing have led to his taking a leading part in the international SETI organisation.
