Citation | Professor Jardine’s distinctive and outstanding contributions to geotechnical engineering science are recognised by 25 International and UK awards. He develops new experimental and monitoring techniques and combines his findings with novel numerical modelling approaches to allow major geotechnical design problems to be approached with previously unobtainable reliability. His verified predictive procedures coupled with direct engagement in many multi- £bn projects worldwide have changed practice internationally and save more than £200m annually. In addition to improving engineering for flood defence, urban renewal and transport projects, his current research contributes greatly to reducing renewable energy costs and enables large cuts in CO2 emissions. |
