CitationProfessor Andrew Pollard has made unique contributions to work on vaccinology, making measurable impact in terms of vaccines delivered and lives saved. The common thread is the use of superb science to modernising the science of vaccinology. He has been instrumental in identifying a role for human pathogen challenge in vaccine development, opening up scientific opportunities only explorable in humans and made seminal contributions to understanding the biology of typhoid infection and its prevention through vaccination. Other areas of direct impact include meningitis, and pneumonia in children, and more recently COVID-19.
