Title | Unwin, Patrick Robert: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 21 April 2024 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Patrick Unwin as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citation giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Unwin has invented electrochemical probe microscopy techniques that have had a transformative influence on the field of electrochemistry. Unwin’s inventions provide images and movies of surface properties and chemical fluxes in unprecedented detail, and are key to revealing and explaining nanoscale surface structure-activity. His electrochemical work has provided new microscopic models across wide classes of electrode materials, spanning nanoparticles, nanotubes, 2D devices, metals, carbon electrodes and molecular catalysts. Unwin’s pioneering experimental platform, now adopted by researchers and companies globally, significantly advances fundamental understanding of electrochemical processes, enabling the design of electrodes for applications in electrocatalysis, charge storage and electrochemistry generally. |
