Citation | Emmanuelle Charpentier is a microbiologist, geneticist and biochemist. She is a leading expert in the regulatory mechanisms underlying infection and immunity processes in pathogenic bacteria. She has devoted most of her career to the study of gram-positive bacteria that are pathogenic to humans. This résumé of research achievements focuses solely on her contribution to the field of CRISPR-Cas research and the harnessing of the CRISPR-Cas9 system for the development of a powerful genetic technology. For this contribution, Charpentier has received a number of awards and accolades, including the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020. |
