CitationSusana Magallón is the world leader in determining the age and tempo of flowering plant diversification, and hence the origin of modern plant diversity and ecosystems. Combining expertise in quantitative paleobiology, molecular systematics and parametric phylogenetics, as well as plant palaeontology, she uses molecular and morphological data to address questions about the evolution of flower structure, the ages and diversification dynamics of major plant clades, and the drivers of high species richness among Neotropical plants. As Director of the Institute of Biology, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, one of the most important institutes of its kind in Latin America, she is highly influential in the study and conservation of biodiversity in Mexico.
