TitleSolomon Islands - correspondence with marine party
Date2 January 1965 - 29 August 1967
DescriptionCorrespondence between the Royal Society, generally written by George Hemmen or Dr Martin to members of the marine party joining the Solomon Islands expedition. The early letters in the file concentrate on the organisation of the expedition, such as ensuring members get the correct sized clothing confirming dates that some members will be arriving, sorting out equipment for the marine party's scientific research as well as letters to participants asking for further details on their proposed research. Later letters in this file include copies of letters sent to next-of-kin to accompany films taken by expedition members, letters from returned expedition members offering their thoughts on the expedition, copies of thank you notes sent to and from the Society and letters informing expedition members of developments, such as the running aground of a ship returning items from the expedition to England.
