In 1954 AERE was incoporated into the newly formed United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). Harwell and other laboratories assumed responsibility for atomic energy research and development.
Although Simon's research work on atomic energy took place during the years of the Second World War, Simon retained an interest post-war in atomic work and acted as a consultant to Harwell and was a member of the Atomic Energy Authority Technical Committee.
