DescriptionComments on effect of adding aluminium stearate to suspension of procaine penicillin - beginning to develop preparations which would give desirable duration of blood levels and higher initial levels - discusses Prolopen, which contains in each cc 100 000 units of crystalline sodium penicillin, 300 000 units crystalline procaine penicillin and 1 % aluminium stearate - advantages in having high concentration of penicillin in blood for short period - discusses duration of penicillin concentrations in tissues - American work has indicated that, following a single dose of 300 000 units of procaine penicillin, blood levels can be prolonged "to such an extent as to render treatment ineffective" - is sending some Prolopen for trial.
