Description | Summaries of exchanges between German astronomer Whilhelm Struve (1793-1864) and Sir John Frederick William Herschel, made by the latter, likely as a calendar of exchanges related to his time as Foreign Secretary to the Astronomical Society. The notes are headed 'Struve'. Summarising the contents of letters and dispatches of books and astronomical observations, including catalogues of double stars. First letter dated Sept. 1 1822 from Struve Second letter dated March 29 1823 from Herschel, announcing Struve's election as an Associate of the Astronomical Society. Mentioning work with South on double stars. Third letter dated September 26 1823 from Struve Last letter dated October 1 1823 from Struve, including some astronomical intelligence on the state of the observatory at Dorpat, geodesical observations between Abo & Dorpat, Walbeck's death, declares his determintation to continue observing in zones with Bessel. |
