Title | Account of the dinner given in honour of Sir John Frederick William Herschel, by unknown |
Date | 1838 |
Description | Note describing the public dinner of 15 June 1838 given at the Geological Museum to celebrate the return of Herschel from the Cape. Describes the dinner as 'one of the most remarkable', 'indicating the signs of the times and the improvement in the opinion of society" noting that the mix of nobility and representants from the arts mixing with "the elite of science of England" may indicate a renewed energy towards science hopefully spurred by the "youthful Queen" who attended. Unidentified hand. Date 1838 noted in pencil, likely reference to the dinner, rather than official dating of the letter. |
