Description | Draft letter in Herschel's hand. Unable to attend the most recent meeting of the Society of Arts, where the idea of having a fixed musical pitch was discussed. As a committee has been struck to study this, John Frederick William Herschel sends in his thoughts on the topic. At the back, unrelated mathematical notes. Accompanied by an enveloppe addressed to Herschel "The Master of the Mint" with a note 'In Re Committee of Soc. of Arts on a fied musical diapason" with a location A5, 40 Repertorium. The enveloppe would have housed the preceding notes. |
