DescriptionCopying book of letters sent by John Frederick William Herschel between July 30 1822 and October 21 1822.
Draft versions of all letters in the copying book are contained in miscellaneous volume HS/19.

Letters were copied using a Brunel's copying machine to preserve the original handwriting.
Inscribed 'Mr Herschel, 9 Downing Street', with an asterix 'All these letters are copied on blue paper by J. H.' [John Herschel]
A label pasted on cover 'as these have been copied I have not bothered to catalogue them, but will catalogue the copies' signed Robin Kenneth Bluhm (Royal Society Librarian) dated 19 January 1953.
