TitleLetter from J M [James Mosey] Cranswick, Rhodes House, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, to Sir J F W [John Frederick William] Herschel
CreatorCranswick; James Mosey (1826-1880); British clergyman
Date25 August 1862
DescriptionThe dialogue 'On Atoms' has been received and Herschel's work is 'clear, interesting and happily humorous'. Scientific writers do not avail themselves of the dialogue enough. One would tire of Plato were it not for the form of exhibiting truth. Herschel's correspondent would order additional copies of the 'Atoms' tract if he knew the publisher. Cranswick is much taken with the Homer translation [of 'The Iliad'], which is very successful and he hopes that Herschel will go on with it.
