TitleLetter from H [Henry] Jeffreys, Parsonage, to 'Dear Sir' [Sir John Frederick William Herschel]
CreatorJeffreys; Henry Anthony (1810-1898); British clergyman
Dateno date [early 1862?]
DescriptionHe is obliged to Herschel for allowing him to see the lines [from 'The Iliad' translation]. The excellence of the attempt lies in lines that would satisfy a modern reader unacquainted with the original. Jeffreys thinks that Herschel has succeded in many parts of this, but not all, because the thing is impossible. Herschel asked for notes and he has scribbled some.
