| Description | John is well and happy and once more on the move, since he has been given responsibility for the Government Indus series. He has a vast amount of work in getting ready for a six or eight month campaign. He returned after thirty three days, having picked up useful information. He describes the Cashmere [Kashmir] valley, the picturesque qualities of which reside in the borders and mountains and he execrates the valley itself. He describes his route back via Abbottabad, and from there across the hills to Murree. The horse involved in a previous accident has had another fall over the edge of a hillside, and has been lost: 'I was sorry for him, though he was such a fool as to go over, for he was a good servant to me while I had him'. He asks that mail is directed to the Post Master at Mooltan [Multan] in future. |
