CreatorHerschel; Sir William James; second baronet (1833-1917); British developer of fingerprinting and judge
Date5 December 1853

His photography has failed, and the nitrate of silver he was melting to remove copper blew up in his face. Fortunately his eyes were shut, but he is now 'piebald' and has to wear gloves to hide his hands. He has bought a small lathe for 36 rupees. He has received pictures of Cary and Alec and a photograph of his father is waiting for him, but he has not seen it yet.
