Letters of 13 November, noting that 'Poor Herschel' had failed his latest examination and with a description of his altercation with suspects he had tried to arrest, resulting in him receiving sword wounds; and of 20 November, detailing Herschel's recuperation, social engagements, and additional background details of the indigo planters' attack on Herschel. With references to Pratt's offer of an Inspectorship of Education to Herschel, and it revocation.
