TitleLetters from C [Charles] Simeon, King's Coll[ege], Cambridge, to Revd Mr [Alexander] Stewart, Moulin, near Dunkeld
CreatorSimeon; Charles (1759-1836); British Church of England clergyman
RecipientStewart; Alexander (1764-1821); British Presbyterian minister and Gaelic scholar
Date11 December 1797
DescriptionHe ought to apologise for being slow in writing, but explains that the work upon which he is engaged occupies him for not less that forty two hours each week. He rejoices in Stewart's 'little society', offering him encouragement. He notes what Stewart says about his soul, very much the same as Simeon's: 'if I have unbounded occasion for shame & sorrow, I have no less occasion for joy & gratitude', describing his preaching at ther university. Five days ago he could not have thought of visiting Scotland, but the assistant on whom he depends has failed in an application for another situation, and therefore Simeon may visit in May; although much depends upon Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan. He looks forward to seeing 'my Dear Friend of Moulin' and he will write from Edinburgh so as not to miss Stewart. He hopes to meet him 'among the general Assembly & Church of the first-born'.

Endorsed: 'Mr. Simeon 11 Decr. 1797 No.2'.
