Description | Note attached to a paper on the method of preserving animal specimens from putrefaction written by Stephen Hales FRS. The note contains an extract from a letter by Louise Teale Belcher, second wife to the then Governor of New Jersey, Jonathan Belcher. The letter dated 22 October 1755 reports height changes in the water of Lake Ontario, second-hand report from the garrisons posted on the shore.
