DescriptionUtting sends hourly observations taken on 22 March. He would like to know if his former observations were considered worthy by the Meteorological Committee [sections missing]. He apprehends his instruments are not sufficiently good. He notes Captain Onslow's appointment. He has found the geographical position of Markee in Ireland, the latitude of which he had from Johnson a year or two ago. He wishes Johnson health..

With a table headed [p.1]: 'Observations made in Latde 52" 36' 12" Longde in June 6m 58s East'. Meteorological observations made on 22 March 1841 [March equinox], commencing at 9.00am and ending at 9.00pm. Columns for the hour, barometer at Yarmouth uncorrected, attached thermometer, detached [external] thermometer, hygrometer, wind direction and general weather remarks.

Inscribed [p.4]: 'No. 248 Recd. 22 April 1841 S.H.C.' [Samuel Hunter Christie]. Also inscribed: 'Hourly Meteorological Observations made at Yarmouth on the 22d March 1841 by Mr. Arthur Utting; Communicated by Captain Edward Johnson, Royal Navy, F.R.S.'.
