With notes on wind direction and strength, and general weather remarks, usually on cloud cover, rain and snow, but recording other phenomena, including mock suns and the aurora borealis.
Commencing: 'Meteorological journal kept at Cumberland House from Jany. 1 to March 4. 1779. and from Jany. 1 to June 3. 1790. by Joseph Colen. Lat. 53 degrees 56 3/4' North. Long. 102 degrees 11' West'. The author comments on the instruments in use for 1779 [p.48], 'The Thermometer used for foregoing Observations was a mercurial one divided the same as the Spirit Thermometer and made by Dollond.'.
