Description | Daily records of the weather observed at York Factory, Hudson's Bay, Canada. Columns for date, time, barometer, thermometer, winds, weather and general remarks. Usually six readings per day, generally commencing at 6.00a.m. and ending at 9.00p.m. The general remarks contain records of the aurora borealis and other phenomena, with occasional references to natural history [for example, 'Poplers, Willows, and all sorts of Shrubs have now yellow Leaves', p.5]. Movements of people are occasionally noted ['Four English and a party of Indians in all 8 Canoes set off for Cumberland House', p.53] and some vessels ['Severn Sloop sailed. Churchill Sloop at Anchor' [p.1].
Although Humphrey Marten remained Chief Factor for the York Factory at this period, the hand of this meteorological sequence appears to be be different from MA/160/2. |
