Description | Daily records of the weather observed at York Factory, Hudson's Bay, Canada. Columns for date, time, barometer, thermometer, winds, weather and general remarks. Usually six readings per day, commencing at 6.00a.m. and ending at 9.00p.m. The general remarks contain records of the aurora borealis and other phenomena, with occasional references to natural history: for example, 'a white Sow has eight young Pigs' [p.8]. Movements of people are occasionally noted: 'Englishmen arrived from Basquea' [p.41].
This manuscript duplicates information in MA/160/2, pp.30-90, and MA/160/3, p.1, the end of which has a hurried note suggesting this as the original, and MA/160/3 a fair copy. |
