DescriptionDaily meteorological observations ranging from one observation per day to up to five readings, most often at 8.00am, 2.00pm and 9.00pm. Columns for date and time, thermometer reading, wind direction and strength, and general weather remarks. The latter are usually on cloud cover, rain and snow, but also recording the aurora borealis.

With a note signed by Philip Turner [p.15]: 'The Thermometer used for the [foregoing - deleted] Observations in 1789 & 1790 was a Spirit Farrenheats [sic] by Dollond...the Numbers to the Wind suppose 4 for a very heavy Gale. The Thermometer used for the year 1778 & 9 was a Mercurial one divided the same as the Spirit Thermometer and made by Dollond...'
Headed [p.1]: 'Cumberland House in Latitude 53 degrees 56' North, Longitude 102 degrees 11' West'. Stamped 'Soc. Reg. Lond.' and inscribed 'Presented by Joseph Colen Esqr. Dec. 9. 1802'.
